The PPO @ the CCP: IAA Records Shostakovich's 5th

So here's the story...

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra needed a demo disc to be sent to the US as promotional media for their US tour. Unfortunately what recordings they had were not acceptable so they went to Mr. Dodie Lucas of Roadrunner for help. Dodie has been a patron of the PPO for a while and is also a founding member of the IAA.

So the IAA agreed to pool our time and what little resources we had together to record the PPO playing Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on April 4 and 5, 2006. It was truly an honor to be a part of this as I was again reminded of why I do what I do. Here are pics of our first day

Before we got to start we were witness to the rehearsal of a Spanish soloist playing the Bandura. Ocsana is her first name and is all I could make out. It was a beautiful sounding instrument that made my heart stop as she played. The CCP sound system did not do it any justice and was best heard from the first few rows.

First part is done... great work guys! :D

My compliments, the enthusiasm shown by everyone was inspiring. It truly was a rare treat. It was something that could not be accomplished with such minimal mobilization even ten years ago.

Very nice photos, Jiggs. Congratulations! Great camera. I did not know you were shooting through the entire process. I should have retouched my make up a little bit more.

Great photos of Gerry as well. Well, I enjoyed and learned a lot from the experience. When the project is finished, mastered and all, we'll discuss how everything went and we can A/B the results.

Congratulations to everyone who participated. Big hand to all you guys!

Just a little info I learned yesterday from the PPO staff. This is the first time in the history of the PPO that they are touring the US. They have done Europe but never the States and what we are doing is going to help them find US sponsorship for their tour. Para sa pinas na to 8) .

Mark, any tentative time for the mixdown? Gawin na ba nating penitensya yan?

Gerry, great shots too. DSLR ka na

Unfortunately Jek, di sya album. Just that one symphpny which has 4 parts. Ano ba total time natin? I don't think there is any plan for any public release, I'm sure we can burn you guys a copy though. We were hoping that this project would be the seed for a future album recording. sana magkatotoo
