hi Darkhorse,

sorry this reply took long, well on shopping for start up gear.... its nice to start on the right foot....suggestions software is the way to go, the rather competent multi-track software that ive tried when i was starting up: vegas, cakewalk/sonar, samplitude, cool edit- now bought by Sony- Adobe Audition na siya, also some two track editors naman: sound forge, steinberg wave lab. mara makapag edit ng stereo file :) also if you are into sampling and sequencing, there are several sequncing softwares that are nice to play with : reason, ableton live, fruity loops,, also multi platform audio and midi sequencers- cubase, nuendo and sonar etc i also suggest that you invest on a good AD-DA coverter, yung tipong kaya nya ng 8 inputs simultaneous and midi in-out-through all at the same time, pili ka ng tipong hindi mo na bibitawan ng 5-8 years, monitors depende sa tast mo at sa studio size and tratment......

hope this helps in finalizing you shopping list :)

wait i remember hacking one of those akai machines, we use to have them Akia samplers and we got tired of loading and unloading those small data card on to them, when finally my friend cracked one open and he jumped the media to a scsi Hard disc, i'll try to ask him regarding your concerns but maybe there is an easier way than what the process is demanding you to do now.
